As part of our PD Day camp series, we offered one-day camps throughout the second week of Winter Break! These camps not only help out parents who are heading back to work - they also get children off their screens and engaging in fun music education!
Music Games with Josh
Our first day camp took place on January 4th with a whole day of music games! The importance of making music FUN is not lost on our teacher Josh (nicknamed Captain Josh by our awesome campers!).
Josh hosted a day of awesome games like bowling, bean bag toss, and Twister. These may sound like ordinary kids games to you, but at TKAM there is always a musical twist! With bowling, the campers could only get a point for their knocked over pins if they correctly named the music symbol drawn underneath the pin.
With Twister, students had to accurately name intervals by ear before putting their hands or feet on the dot!
Musical Theatre Camp
The following day, Josh ran our fabulous Musical Theatre Day Camp! Our campers engaged in drama games, musical theory history activities, and recreating scenes from the famous Shrek The Musical.
Our campers learned about the importance of acting, singing, and dancing in stage musicals, and are well on their way to being triple threats!
Rock 'n Roll Camp
Josh wrapped up our week of one-day camps with our awesome Rock and Roll Day Camp! Our students learned all about important rock and roll artists and history, while also trying out mini guitar lessons, piano lessons, drum lessons, and singing lessons.
Other activities included an air guitar contest, learning how to actively listen and follow other musicians in your band, and making mini rock bands!
Thanks Captain Josh for an awesome week of music over Winter Break!
